Congratulating the people for giving her party a huge mandate, Mamata Banerjee today said this was a “victory of the people”.
Results on the Election Commission website maintain that the Trinamool Congress has been declared a winner in four seats and is leading in 209. The Party will approach the Governor tomorrow, staking majority.
"We will approach the Governor tomorrow. Swearing in of the Cabinet is likely on May 27,” Mamata told reporters at a press conference. People have not just rejected the so-called Alliance (between the Left and Congress) but they have also seen through its conspiracies, Banerjee said.
Taking a dig at the Left-Congress alliance, Banerjee said allying with the Congress was a “huge blunder” for the CPM. Similarly, she claimed by joining hands with the CPM the Congress had committed a “national level” mistake.
“The CPM compromised with their ideology and they must understand this now,” Banerjee said.
Incidentally, the Congress, and not the Left parties, has emerged as the second largest party this election. According to the EC website, Congress is leading in 44 seats; against 28 of the Left. The BJP and its ally, GJM, has a lead in seven seats.
