Mangalore will be among the four locations in the country to host the regional Indian Science and Engineering Fair 2013 (INSEF 2013) for high school students.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, C.K. Manjunatha, Principal of The Yenepoya School, Mangalore, said that the fair will be conducted on September 6 and 7 at The Yenepoya School in Mangalore.
Being organised by the Science Society of India, the fair is aimed at encouraging innovating thinking and research skills among high school students.
More than 100 projects have been selected from various schools for the regional fair in Mangalore. A majority of them are from rural areas, he said.
The regional science fair is an attempt to find talent among the interested students and encourage them to take up career in science.
Regional fairs
Manjunatha said the regional fairs are happening in Mumbai, Mangalore, Rajkot and Chennai.
The best projects in the regional fair would qualify for the national fair of INSEF in Chennai.
The best projects from the national fair will be selected for International Sustainable World (Engineering, Energy and Environment) Project Olympiad in the US, he said.
Swapan Bhattacharya, Director of the Mangalore-based National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), will inaugurate the regional round in Mangalore on September 6.
U.T. Khader, Karnataka Health Minister, will chair the valedictory of the fair on September 7.
