Foreign universities have sought Mangalore University’s help in conducting workshops on yoga therapy for their students, according to Vice-Chancellor K Byrappa.
Inaugurating a workshop on yoga therapy for the students of Wonkwang Digital University of South Korea in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Byrappa said the Department of Yogic Science in Mangalore University has been conducting yoga therapy workshops for South Korean students for the past few years.
Some universities from Canada and Europe have also shown interest in such workshops for their students, he said.
Apart from offering certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate courses in yogic science, the department also offers yoga therapy for general public at subsidised rates, Byrappa said.
Jong Soon Seo, provost of Wonkwang Digital University, highlighted the importance of yoga in everyday life.
AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, who inaugurated the workshop, said yoga provides employment opportunities in today’s world. He cautioned against the misuse of yoga by unscrupulous elements.
Krishna Sharma, head of the Department of Yogic Science, said the four-day workshop would deal with six topics related to health issues.
