Compost manufactured from the solid waste collected in Mangaluru city will now be marketed through Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) Ltd.

This measure has been initiated following the announcement of the ‘Policy on Promotion of City Compost’ by the Centre recently.

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), MCF and the Unique Waste Processing Company have signed a tripartite agreement in this regard.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Harinath, Mangaluru Mayor, said that MCC has entrusted the work of manufacturing compost from the solid waste generated in the city to Unique Waste Processing Company. The compost produced by the company will be marketed through MCF, he said.

HN Gopalakrishna, MCC Commissioner, said that the city produces around 275 tonnes of solid waste every day. MCC expects production of around 400 tonnes of compost from the solid waste every month.

He said the marketing company gets ₹1,500 a tonne as market development assistance from the Centre for this.
