MedGenome, a genomics-based diagnostics and research company, will use the ₹130 crore ($20 million) funding from Sequoia Capital to increase capacity at its research lab in Bengaluru.

It also plans to set up a research lab in the US since transporting samples to India is difficult.

Speaking on the sidelines of a genomics symposium at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Sam Santhosh, Chairman, MedGenome, said the company will collaborate with pharmaceutical players in the US for research on new drugs for chronic medical conditions.

Santhosh said pharma companies either approach MedGenome with specific problems or the company approaches pharma players that might be interested in funding research that may benefit them.
