Journalists and photographers, under the aegis of the Press Club, Kolkata, took out a rally this afternoon to protest the attack on media-persons and scribes while covering the Bidhannagar Municipal Elections on October 3.
At least 17 scribes – reporters, photographers and camera-men – were assaulted and injured in an attack by alleged Trinamool Congress miscreants that day. Some of the journalists are still in hospital. Journalists and media-persons were attacked when they tried to cover incidents of outsiders entering polling booths and casting votes during the elections.
At least 500 journalists, that included Press Club members, participated in the solidarity march that began from the Press Club premises and was focussed around the Esplanade area of the city.
According to office-bearers of the Press Club, Kolkata, members will meet and submit a memorandum to the Governor, KN Tripathi, State Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra and Additional Chief Secretary, Basudeb Banerjee.
