The Meghalaya Government on Wednesday decided to form two committees to study the problem of influx and illegal immigrants and review the tenancy laws.

Making a suo motu statement on the first day of the Assembly session, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the committee on influx would be headed by Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M. Lanong, in-charge of law.

A directorate of infiltration is being set up within the next few days to have a more effective check on illegal immigrants, he said.

The Lanong-headed panel would include ministers, chief executive members of three district Councils, representatives from the apex bodies of traditional institutions and NGOs.
