After the ban on mining and its exports from Bellary, the district is slowly limping back to normalcy. To showcase its relevance and economic importance of mining in the region, the Mining Engineers’ Association of India (MEAI) is holding a national level meet at Hospet.
The two-day meet is expected to focus on ‘Iron Ore Mining in India: Present Challenges and Future Prospects.’
According to Meda Venkataiah, convener of the meet and past president, MEAI, “The meet in Hospet assumes significance in view of resumption of mining in Hospet-Bellary region after the orders of Supreme Court.”
The seminar will throw more light on important challenges and remedies for sustainable iron ore mining, resource planning and need of steel industry, reclamation and rehabilitation (R&R) measures, Safety Management System, Conservation and Benefication and Transparent mode of sale and dispatch.
The meet is sponsored by Directorate General of Mines Safety, Karnataka Department of Mines and Geology, NMDC Limited, Mines Safety Association and it will be held from June 7 to 8 at Hotel Royal Orchid Central, Hospet.
H R Srinivasa, Director, Department of Mines and Geology, Bangalore will deliver the keynote address. Rahul Guha, Director General of Mines Safety, Dhanbad is the chief guest and C.S. Verma, CMD, NMDC Ltd and N K Nanda, Director (Technical) NMDC Limited, Hyderabad are the Guests.
The technical session will be presided by Dr S K Sarangi, President, Mining Engineers’ Association of India and mining professionals V. Lakshmi Narayana, Director of Mines Safety, Bellary, R H Sawkar, Secretary, Geological Society of India, Bangalore, Dr B N Shankar, among others to participate.
