The Centre has announced a ₹1,000-crore package for Kerala on the occasion of the Narendra Modi government’s second anniversary in office.
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar made the announcement while addressing newspersons here on Friday. The package involves the setting up of major Central establishments in the State.
Central establishments Accordingly, an Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology will be set up directly under the Union Ministry. This will have the same status as an Indian Institute of Technology.
A pharmaceutical park, and plastic park which will reuse and recycle plastic are other projects proposed. Ananth Kumar also promised to set up 200 Jan Aushadhi stores that provide generic drugs at lesser prices.
Asks State for land But the Minister clarified that the State Government should make available adequate land and other basic infrastructure for these projects. The pharmaceutical park alone will require anything between 200 and 500 acres of land and the plastic park, 100 acres.
