Infosys founder N. R. Narayana Murthy has urged the state government to address the city’s infrastructure woes.

Addressing a gathering of over 1,000 people at the Invest Karnataka 2016 summit, which included government officials and corporates, Murthy said youngsters from all over the country want to come to the city. “They look at Bengaluru as the place to be,” he added.

Murthy’s call to the government comes on the back of the export contribution made by IT companies based in the city.

According to Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) data, in FY 2014, Karnataka generated export revenue of Rs 2,73,313 crore, of which at least 50 per cent was generated by Bengaluru. But that has not resulted in an improvement in its urban infrastructure, according to most corporates in the city.

Recently, a top executive from an Indian IT exporter told BusinessLine that 25-40 per cent of the SEZ capacity across Mysuru, Mangaluru and Hubbali is lying empty.
