The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on Monday said it has signed MoUs with the Maharashtra Government to undertake dairy development in
the less developed areas of the State, like Vidarbha and Marathwada, to provide livelihoods to small farmers.
NDDB would focus on increasing production by providing technical inputs including artificial insemination and advice on nutrition, in particular ration balancing, according to a press release here.
NDDB’s subsidiary NDDB Dairy Services would organise milk producers into new generation cooperatives, like a producers’ company. The milk so collected will be processed in the Nagpur Dairy, which will be refurbished and managed by Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Ltd (MDFVL), Delhi. MDFVL would also undertake the marketing of milk and milk products produced in the dairy.
An MoU was also signed under which land in the Gowe-Bhiwandi area in Thane district would be leased by the Maharashtra Government to MDFVL to set up a five lakh litre capacity, expandable to a 10 lakh litres processing plant.
