The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan, said that there have been 23 crore refills under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana till now.
Speaking at an event,Pradhan said, “In the last 32 months, six crore connections have been disbursed under the Ujjwala scheme and 80 per cent of the recipients have opted for a refill of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.”
“There have been up to 12 refills in some cases but the average refilling is four for the Ujjwala connections,” he added.
Lauding the Centre’s efforts for the success of the scheme, Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, said, “This has been the world’s largest poverty alleviation programme. There has been no comparable achievement by recent governments. LPG coverage stood at 50 per cent of the country in 2014 when the scheme started. It has now grown to 90 per cent in December 2018.”
