Nilekani tells Ananth Kumar “Don’t harvest fruits in your neighbour’s yard”

Nandan Nilekani, Congress party candidate from Bangalore South, hit out against BJP’s Ananth Kumar of taking credit for work done by citizens and political leaders.

“My opponent called a press conference today morning and claimed that the Bangalore Agenda Task Force (BATF) Nirmala toilets were funded by him,” said Nilekani.

“But in reality the BATF Nirmala toilets were funded by Sudha Murthy in her personal capacity and built by BATF. Ananth Kumar had nothing to do with it,” he added.

“Ananth Kumar also took credit for setting up and naming the Kempe Gowda International Airport,” Nilekani noted, “But as it was the then Chief Minister S M Krishna, who laid the foundation stone for the Kempe Gowda International Airport, and it was named when S M Krishna was the Union Minister.”

“Ananth Kumar must be feeling rattled by his imminent defeat in the elections, to be making such hasty statements,” Nilekani said. “Still, that shouldn’t be an excuse to take credit for things you have not done. You shouldn’t be harvesting the fruit of the trees in your neighbour’s yard.”

“As citizens across Bangalore south have told me, what we want to see is action, not words. Our people want results. But what they have seen in the last 18 years is a lot of talk and broken promises,” Nilekani said, “I promise that in the next five years that will change.”
