Union Shipping and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, had a close shave before landing at Haldia after the rotors of his helicopter was stuck in the red carpet laid out for his welcome.
Gadkari is in Haldia, some 150-odd kms from the city, to inaugurate the biodiesel facility at the Haldia port.
According to senior Port Trust officials, the red carpet got entangled in the chopper blades.
"The carpet at the helipad ground was laid as part of Guard of Honour. The carpet got dislodged from the ground due to sudden wind. There was no fault either on part of the arrangement or on the part of the pilot," Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) - which runs the Haldia Dock System- said in a statement.
Gadkari himself tweeted on the incident, but downplayed it.
A tweet by him read: " All passengers on board helicopter to Haldia are safe. Really appreciate the concerns and well wishes expressed."
