Amid intense debate over the Prime Ministerial candidate from National Democratic Alliance, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday supported the view that the nominee for the top post should be announced before elections and the candidate should be chosen in a meeting of the NDA.

“Yes, it should be done,” he told reporters in reply to a question whether name of the candidate for the PM should be announced before polls. He was talking to media persons emerging from “Janata Ke Darbar me mukhya mantra”.

Kumar, however, refuted that he had ever said that the announcement of the name should be done at least a year before the elections. “I have never spoken about time for announcement of PM nominee,” Kumar said.

Kumar supported the opinion of JD(U) President Sharad Yadav that the NDA’s choice for PM post should be decided in the meeting of the opposition coalition.

Meanwhile in Bhopal, former BJP leader Govindacharya said senior Congress leaders A.K. Antony and Digvijay Singh had the “potential” to become Prime Minister, but not Narendra Modi or Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.

“In my view, defence minister A.K. Antony and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh have potential to become Prime Minister. I am saying this as both have administrative experience to do good work,” he told reporters after attending the All India Electricity Labourers Federation conference here last evening.

“I feel both Narendra Modi and Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi are not fit to be the Prime Minister of the country,” he said.

Replying to a query on the ongoing debate over the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2014 polls, Govindacharya said, “L.K. Advani could still be the BJP’s Prime Ministerial nominee.”
