NMDC to tap space technology to monitor mineral resources

Mining major National Mineral Development Corporation Limited will set up an exclusive centre to monitor mineral resources through application of space technology, according to BP Acharya, Principal Secretary, Planning and Director General Telangana State Remote Sensing Application Centre.

He announced this after attending the national meet on promoting Space Technology Applications in Governance and Development held today at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the meeting attended by the Vice Chairman NITI Aayog, Secretaries of GoI, Chief Secretaries of States, Secretaries and senior officials of various States, according to a statement.

Acharya briefed A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman ISRO and Secretary Department of Space about the new initiatives taken up by the Telangana Government to monitor various developmental programmes like Mission Kakatiya and Drinking Water Grid through remote sensing applications.
