Do you want pure Pushkar water from the river Godavari delivered home in a bottle?

Well, the Indian postal department is offering just that in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The Department has launched GOD JAL. All you have to do is pay Rs 20 per bottle. The bottled water will be available during the period of the Gadavari Pushkarams (which occurs once every 12 years), which began on July 14.

The AP Postal Circle has decided to purify the Godavari Pushkar Jal (GOD-JAL) and supply it in bottles. The water can be booked on the Internet from across the country as well as from foreign countries, says a press release.

As part of the programme, B.V. Sudhakar, Postmaster-General, AP Circle, Hyderabad, launched the first consignment of GOD-JAL bottles today.

The Maha Pushkar (which occurs once in 144 years) for the river Godavari has attracted lakhs of people from both states. However, the event began on a tragic note with a stampede that killed over 30 people on day one.

Undeterred, lakhs of people are taking a holy dip in the river at ghats in AP and Telangana. While Rajahmundry in AP has attracted the highest number of pilgrims, Dharmapuri in Telangana is drawing large numbers.

Poor inflows from the catchments areas of Maharashtra into the Godavari river has resulted in less water at several places and rivulets. However, it has not waned the enthusiasm of the people.
