Punjab government would facilitate the return of the bodies of victims of the Oak Creek tragedy from US to India for cremation at their native places.
The government would bear full expenses on transportation of the victims’ bodies and an assurance to this effect was given to their families by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, an official spokesman said here.
Badal had visited the families of Sita Singh and Ranjit Singh, two brothers who died in the tragic shootout in the Oak Creek Gurdwara. He conveyed his personal and his government’s sympathies and solidarity with the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister also called up the Indian Ambassador in US, Nirupama Rao, late last night and asked her to extend full cooperation to the hapless families both in providing local relief as well as in expediting the return of the bodies to India.
Badal, as per the spokesman, requested US envoy in India Nancy Powell for all necessary logistic and diplomatic support of the US administration in providing relief to the families.
