Odisha government has enhanced retirement age of doctors serving in the government medical colleges from 60 years to 65 years, official sources said today.
The decision in this regard was effective from April 29, a notification issued by the state finance department said.
Shortage of doctors was a major constraint affecting delivery of the desired level of healthcare to the citizens of the state.
Besides, for expansion of medical education in the state, the government has decided to enhance the retirement age of doctors serving government hospitals from 60 to 65 years, it said.
