Over two lakh traders in Telangana will soon get new Tax Payer Identification Numbers (TIN).

This was disclosed by Heeralal Samariya, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Govt of Andhra Pradesh at an interactive meeting with traders on issues arising out of reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Tuesday.

``We have already written to the Government of India as it has to allot first two digits of new TIN series for the Telangana state. This might happen at any time from now,’’ he said.

This identification number is mandatory for all traders for the purpose of tax payments. All the existing dealers would need to intimate whether they would like to operate in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. For those who would have operations in Andhra Pradesh, their present number would be continued there. But, they would get a new TIN in Telangana state, the official said. The process would be done online.

Later, while speaking to the newspersons, Samariya said `the biggest challenge' for his department was to complete the issue on new numbers in Telangana before the appointed date of June 2, 2014.

When asked on the tax collection in the present financial year ending this month, he said it would be about Rs 50,000 crore. ``The tax collection the Andhra Pradesh this year will be highest in the country with over 20 per cent growth compared to last year,’’ he added.
