Karnataka government has permitted the closure of the Bangalore factory of biscuit company Parle Products.
The company had made an application for closure under section 25 (o) (1) of the Industrial Disputes Act on account of continuous labour unrest during the past two years.
The decision to close down the factory was taken because of alleged violence against some of the officials of the company.
The factory was started in 2001 and the management had invested a total of Rs 70 crore so far. But the unit has not been functioning continuously.
In a press release, B.C. Prabhakar, president of Karnataka Employees Association, said the State Government has conveyed to the workers and trade unions that it would not tolerate violence or workers taking law into their hands.
