Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched Rozgar Mela, which is the recruitment drive for 10 lakh personnel, through video conferencing, and said the Centre is working on many fronts to create more and more jobs in the country.

During the ceremony, appointment letters were handed over to 75,000 newly inducted appointees.

Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the government is working to soften the blow of the economic problems faced by several countries following the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that several large economies are struggling with after effects of the pandemic and are facing problems such as inflation and unemployment.

The side effects of this once in a 100 years event will not go away in 100 days, he said.

Leaping forward

While acknowledging the enormity of the economic challenges that the country faces, he said the country could manage to contain the negative repercussions to a great degree.

“This has been made possible because in the last 8 years we got rid of those shortcomings of the country’s economy which created hindrances,” he said.

“However, India has been strongly taking new initiatives, some risk and is trying to save itself from these challenges,” he said.

He attributed the reforms taken in the last eight years for India leaping forward to becoming the fifth largest economy in the world from the tenth position in the last seven to eight years.

Bright future

Further, emphasising the most job-intensive sectors like agriculture, private sector and MSME, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of skilling India’s youth for a brighter future.

Initiatives like liberalising drone policy, opening up space policy, and ₹20 lakh crore worth of loans under Mudra Yojana have taken the process further. “Never before a self-employment program of this magnitude was implemented in the county,” he said.

The Prime Minister also said the government is working comprehensively in the manufacturing and tourism sectors as both have huge employment potential. He highlighted the aspect of employment generation through infrastructure creation

Development work is also being carried out on a large scale creating lakhs of employment opportunities for the youth at the local level.

Mission mode

The Prime Minister had asked various government departments and ministries in June to recruit 10 lakh people on a "mission mode" in the next year and a half.

The new recruits, selected from across the country, will join 38 ministries or departments of the Government of India. They will join the government at various levels in Group A and B (gazetted), Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C.

The posts on which appointments are being made include those of the central armed forces personnel, sub-inspectors, constables, LDCs, stenographers, PAs, income tax inspectors and MTS, according to a statement issued by the government.
