The West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday moved the Calcutta High Court claiming that State Government failed to provide adequate security personnel for the Panchayat polls.
The SEC application mentioned that the supremacy of the Commission, which was upheld by the bench in an order last week, was not followed in some cases. The application was moved before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Joymalyo Bagchi.
The Commission appealed before the court that it should direct the State Government to immediately arrange for required forces in order to conduct free and fair rural polls.

The Court has asked SEC to serve a notice to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in this regard. The Bench also asked the Commission to add the Centre as a respondent in its application.
The poll panel has also urged in its application that the Court issue directions to the State to comply with its earlier orders.
