The Election Commission has asked the district administration in Uttar Pradesh not to permit Amit Shah of the BJP and Azam Khan of the SP to address any public meetings or rallies.
Coming down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh State Administration for not taking action against the two, the Commission has asked the State administration to send a compliance report by 5 pm on Saturday on the action taken on its directions. Khan is also a Minister in the UP Government.
In a communication to the State Chief Secretary, the Commission has said that it has been “observing" with “serious concern” that the two leaders are making “highly inflammatory speeches” during the course of election campaign.
“The statements are promoting feeling of enmity, hatred and ill-will and creating disharmony between different religious communities on the ground of religion,” the Commission has told the Chief Secretary.
It has asked the state administration to ensure that necessary FIRs are filed immediately.
