Polling started on a brisk note in Chennai today. Actor Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan were some of the early voters to cast their votes when it started at 7 a.m.
Long queues were seen in places like Triplicane and Mylapore.
Meanwhile, there have been reports of malfunctioning of electronic voting machines (EVM).
According to sources, an EVM malfunctioned at a booth in Goplalapuram from where DMK leader Karunanidhi and his family cast their cotes. Voting was stopped for 45 minutes to rectify the problem.
In Chennai, voting takes place in 3,336 polling stations of which nearly 255 are sensitive. Nearly 34 lakh voters in the city will cast their votes today.
Unlike a poor turnout in Bangalore, voting in Chennai is expected to be high.
