‎Polling started on a brisk note in Chennai today. Actor Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan were some of the early voters to cast their votes when it started at 7 a.m.

Long queues were seen in places like Triplicane and Mylapore.

Meanwhile,‎ there have been reports of malfunctioning of electronic voting machines (EVM).

According to sources, an EVM malfunctioned at a booth in Goplalapuram from where DMK leader Karunanidhi and his family cast their cotes. Voting was stopped for 45 minutes to rectify the problem.

In Chennai‎, voting takes place in 3,336 polling stations of which nearly 255 are sensitive. Nearly 34 lakh voters in the city will cast their votes today.

Unlike a poor turnout in Bangalore, voting in Chennai is expected to be high.
