A day ahead of the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, BJP President Amit Shah said the election results would be a referendum on the performance of BJP government.

“Usually State elections are to assess the performance of State governments. But here, it is a referendum on the Narendra Modi government too. We have done development works worth ₹1 lakh crore in the State over the last two-and-a-half years. We have 73 seats from the State,” he said. Addressing reporters in Varanasi, he claimed his party would win more than two-third of the State’s seats. He said people in the State were more eager than the party workers that the BJP should come to power.

Shah attacked the Samajwadi Party on law and order, saying it had been the worst during five years of the Akhilesh Yadav government. He said a government under the BJP would arrest and try controversial SP leader and rape accused Gayatri Prajapati.

He claimed that the BJP had won majority in the last five phases. “In the next two phases, we will get more than two-third majority. We got unprecedented support from people. It is a wave like 2014 general elections,” he said.

He said people are angry with the SP government. “The last 15 years of SP-BSP-SP governments have let the people down. Now they are looking towards the BJP,” he added.

Attacking Akhilesh, Shah said the Chief Minister asks the BJP when will the acche din would come. “He was responsible for bringing acche din in the last five years. He did not do anything and is now asking us…I want to tell him that acche din will in Uttar Pradesh come on March 11,” he said.
