Power rates hiked in Uttarakhand

People in Uttarakhand will now have to spend more on their electricity bills as power tariffs have been hiked by an average of 5.21 per cent in the State, official sources said here on Tuesday.

However, the revised new rates which took effect from May 1, will not affect BPL people and domestic consumers who do not consume more than 100 units of electricity a month, Uttarakhand Power Regulatory Commission sources said.

The monthly fixed charge for domestic consumers has been hiked by Re 1 to Rs 25 whereas power rates for them have been increased from 10 paise to 40 paise per unit, they said. For small industries, power rates have been hiked by 15 paise a unit whereas for heavy industries it has gone up by 20 paise per unit.
