Electricity tariff in Tamil Nadu will go up by 15 per cent from December 12.
An official press release from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, said it has revised the electricity tariff for various categories of electricity consumers and the transmission tariff relating to the transmission utility. The increase in tariff which comes into effect from December 12, will be about 15 per cent for all categories of consumers.
In a separate statement, state government said it will hike the electricity subsidy to protect more than 90 per cent of the residential consumers and those getting free power from the hike. Houses using up to 500 units in a two-month billing cycle will not be affected as the government will absorb the hike with increased subsidy. Free power supply including to agriculture will continue. The subsidy outgo will be ₹6,295 crore to compensate the utility.
