IT czar Azim Premji today exhorted Bangaloreans to spearhead a citizens’ movement and stage agitations in protest against non-clearance of tens of thousands of tonnes of garbage rotting on the streets.

“I think it’s a very serious problem”, the Chairman of Wipro told reporters in response to questions.

Premji expressed concern over the “amount of viral fever which is going around in Bangalore” and the pollution being released into the lakes.

He said though there are pollution-reforming and pollution-control machineries, three-fourth of them don’t work.

So, the waste is entirely released into the river, part of which is used from drinking water purposes. And in many parts of Bangalore, the “dump” (garbage) is now extending to the middle of the streets.

“I think there should be a strong citizens’ movement for this; you agitate. It’s ruining your health, it’s ruining the health of your parents and it’s ruining the health of your children”, Premji added.
