The Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM), which is spearheading the demand for reservation for the Maratha community, has announced a silent protest on Thursday outside the Collector’s office in suburban Mumbai.

Similar protests will also be held in other parts of Mumbai and the State. This is likely to affect traffic movement and daily life of the people.

MKM co-ordinator Kedar Suryavanshi told reporters on Wednesday that the protest would be peaceful. He promised that the protesters would stay clear of violence.

However, other parallel Maratha organisations, which have sprung up in the last few months, also have similar demands for gaining reservations. Sakal Maratha Samaj, which claims to be an umbrella body for the community has also announced that it would be holding a peaceful protest in Mumbai.

The leader of Sakal Maratha Samaj, Amol Jadhavrao said that the protests would be held in the all the region except Navi Mumbai. It would be held in a peaceful manner from dawn to dusk. Essential services will not be affected by the bandh.

In Pune, the District Collector, Naval Kishore Ram taking anticipatory measures, has ordered the educational institutions to remain shut on Thursday.

The order has been given the fact that recent agitations had turned violent in Pune, resulting in acts of arson and massive damage to public property.
