Senior Congress leader AK Antony said here on Monday that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a farmers’ rally organised by the party on Sunday. The Amethi MP has been on a two-month sabbatical.
Another senior leader Jairam Ramesh said his return will benefit not only the Congress but also the entire country.
“Not just the Congress, but the whole country will benefit due to his return,” he said.
Addressing reporters here, Antony asked them “not to worry” about Rahul.
“He will address the rally on 19 April,” the former Defence Minister said, adding: “It will be a grand programme.”
The Congress has been formulating strategies against the Land Acquisition Ordinance, along with other opposition parties and farmers’ organisations. Though the party’s earlier events on the issue failed to attract much response, it was decided that a big farmers’ rally at Ram Lila ground here can boost the morale of party workers around the country.
The party has been maintaining that it will not compromise on the Land Bill.
