Actor Rajendra Prasad has been elected the President of Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA), defeating actress-politician Jayasudha. In a keenly contested election with many twists and turns, Rajendra Prasad was polled 237 votes, getting a comfortable majority of 85 votes over his opponent.

Though the association has got only 700 members, election to its executive body has turned out to be an interesting one with veteran actor and Telugu Desam MP Maganti Murali Mohan throwing his lot behind Jayasudha. As many as 394 members cast their vote in the poll held on March 29.

After the poll, the High Court had stayed the counting following a complaint by one of the contestants over the conduct of the poll.

Counting began this morning with the High Court giving a go ahead.
