The multi-format retailer Reliance Retail Ltd (RRL) opened the second ‘Reliance Mart’ store in Tamil Nadu and the first in Coimbatore, at the Fun Republic Mall on Avinashi Road in Peelamedu on Saturday.
The company, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), which has a slew of retail store formats, including Reliance Super and Reliance Fresh, plans to open another Reliance Mart outlet in the State at Salem.
According to a Reliance Mart spokesman, the first Reliance Mart Store in the State was opened in Tiruchi in 2007. Salem was next on the radar and the store may be opened in about six months.
While Reliance Mart is a large format hypermarket store with a minimum space of about 30,000 sq.ft., Reliance Fresh was smaller at about 2,000 sq. ft. The Super Mart was between the two formats at about 10,000 sq.ft. in size. It was the Reliance Mart format that was the biggest revenue earner and the company was focussing on tier-I and tier-II cities for this format.
He added that besides the outlets in malls, Reliance also has standalone stores. Such stores drive greater footfall in the malls.
According to a Reliance Mart release, the Coimbatore Reliance Mart is spread over 45,000 sq. ft. and stocks over 20,000 products ranging from vegetables and grocery items to apparels, electronics and white goods. It also has a ready-to-eat food section and a bakery.
The store offers a customer loyalty programme under which points earned could be redeemed later.
RRL has 13 retail format stores including Reliance Digital, a consumer durables and IT store, ‘iStore by Reliance Digital’, an Apple speciality store, and Reliance Jewels, a jewellery concept, apart from Reliance Fresh, Reliance Super and Reliance Mart.
