RINL gets pat for green initiatives

Syedain Abbasi, Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Steel, on Monday promised help to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to achieve raw material security by getting captive mines and he also praised the eco-friendly measures being implemented by the company.

After a visit to the model room and award gallery at Ukkunagaram and a review meeting with senior officials of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) here, he remarked that RINL was a modern, well-run and most environment-friendly plant in the Indian steel industry.

He praised RINL for maintaining ‘clean and green’ environment not only in the plant but also in the township. He expressed confidence that RINL would soon get its raw material security and the Union Ministry of Steel was doing its best to achieve it.

He went around the new units of the expansion project during which Director (Operations) Umesh Chandra and Director (Projects) N.S. Rao explained the latest know-how incorporated in the plant and production from the new units. He advised RINL officials to work hard to stabilise the new units to enhance production levels.

Umesh Chandra said that new initiatives such as green technologies were being adopted in the plant and mentioned that RINL was adding another one million tonne to reach to 7.3 mt with modernisation of existing units.

Director (Finance) P. Madhusudan spoke about the prudent financial management measures being implemented by the company and he added that RINL had carried out the expansion with total internal accruals. He also mentioned that the company had got the capability to meet the expenditure for the ongoing modernisation of the existing units from its own resources. Director (Personnel) Y.R. Reddy and other senior officials attended the interactive session.
