Telangana signs MoU with CR Rao Inst for Cyber Security Academy

Korean electronics major Samsung is setting up a Digital Academy to train the youth in software development and testing tools. The mobile major, which launched a smart phone based on open source-based, will train the youth in the Tizen Operating System.

“We are going to do this in different engineering colleges. We will train the trainers who will go to the colleges in Telangana districts and train students in software development,” Deepak Bhardwaj, Vice-President of Samsung (South West Asia), said.

The company signed an agreement with the TASK (Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge) here on Monday in this regard. This pact is part of a few MoUs signed by the Telangana Government with different corporates and institutes as part of the Digital Telangana campaign held at Madhapur.

Cyber Security

In another agreement, C R Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS) would help the government to set up a Cyber Security Academy to create ‘Cyber Warriors’. The institute would train youth in various aspects of cyber security, opening up employment opportunities in private and public sectors.

Economist and former RBI Governor C Rangarajan said cyber security was very important and, if not guarded against well, cyber crimes could cause damage. “Besides securing the systems, we need to create strengths in early warning and abilities to counter the attacks. It is imperative for us to get ready,” he said.

E-waste management

As part of the programme, NASSCOM Foundation and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation released a ‘Feasibility Report for E-waste management in Cyberabad Zone’.

It throws light on the current practices of e-waste management by IT firms and comes up with recommendations to create a culture of responsible e-waste management. A Foundation official said it would launch a pilot in one of the IT parks to implement the suggestions made in the report.

Meanwhile, the much-hyped MoU signing with Micromax didn’t take place. “The Industry Secretary is not in town. We wouldn’t like it to do it in his absence,” IT Minister K T Rama Rao said in his speech.
