Srinjoy Bose, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former editor of party mouthpiece Jago Bangla , was on Wednesday granted bail by a city court. He had been arrested in November 2014 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Saradha scam.
Bose, also the editor of Bengali daily Sambad Pratidin , was granted bail on a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and has been directed not to leave the country without the permission of the court. He has also been asked to cooperate with the CBI in connection with the probe. Bose is the first senior Trinamool Congress leader to be granted bail in the Saradha scam.
Other Trinamool Congress leaders still behind bars in connection with the scam include State Cabinet Minister Madan Mitra and former DGP Rajat Majumdar.
CBI searches Meanwhile, the CBI on Wednesday carried out searches in eight different places in West Bengal and at one place in Odisha in connection with another deposit-taking company, Real Tulip Ltd. The company is said to operate out of Odisha.
“The offices and residential premises of its directors Tirtha Halder, Malay Halder, Prasenjit Sil, Malay Guha, Dipankar Ghosh and others were searched,” said a CBI spokesperson.
