Satta market bets on Cong win in Rajasthan, close finish in M.P.

 

If trends in Satta Bazar are anything to go by for upcoming Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) elections, BJP is not expected to make a comeback in one State and the Congress is giving a tough fight in another. So far, betting odds show the BJP as losing Rajasthan and a photo-finish contest in M.P. Chhattisgarh, where two phase polling was held recently, will be retailed by the saffron party, betting trends show.

Bookies said, so far it seems difficult for the BJP to win more than 60 seats in

Rajasthan , which has 200 assembly seats. They said that the Congress could at least get 105 seats. Those betting on the BJP winning 60 seats in Rajasthan stand to win double their wager. For those betting on the Congress winning 105 seats, the bookies will give just 32 paise over and above every ₹1 bet. Bookies tend to offer higher a pay out on the bet, which is not likely to succeed. Pay out for betting on the favourite is lower. Pay out on BJP forming government in the State will be ₹3 on every ₹1 bet. Similiarly, for Congress, it is mere 30 paise over a ₹1. Bookies have discounted Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which is fighting at all the seats in the State. The State goes to poll on December 7.

“In the 25-year history of Rajasthan, the ruling party has never returned to power and it is this premises why the Congress is the favourite in the State. The fact that BJP CM Vasundhara Raje has lost her charm with voters is common talk. MP will see a close fight,” a Delhi bookie told BusinessLine .

In MP, those betting on the Congress forming government, stand to win ₹0.9 over and above every ₹1. On BJP, the wager is ₹1.10 over a ₹1. MP has 230 Assembly seats. For a Congress majority of 116 seats, the bookies are willing to pay ₹1.70 over and above a ₹1. If BJP gets a majority of 116, the bookies will give ₹2.15 to the winner over and above his bet of ₹1. Odds for both the BJP and the Congress winning at least 95 seats are pegged at ₹0.32 and ₹0.22 each respectively over and above bet of ₹1. Polling will be held in the State on Wednesday.

In Chhattisgarh, BJP is a clear favourite. Odds for it forming the government are ₹0.55 over and above ₹1. For Congress, the odds are ₹1.65 on the same amount bet. In the State with 80 assembly seats, BJP had won 49 seats last time and Congress 39. Odds to a Rupee bet on the BJP getting to the halfway mark is ₹0.40. The same for Congress is at ₹0.9.

If BJP gets 45 seats, those who have bet on such a possibility stand to earn double their bet. But those predicting 45 seats for the Congress stand to win ₹2 over and above a bet of ₹1.
