The ceramic industry is moving to double its turnover to ₹50,000 crore by 2020, driven by rising domestic consumption and exports to the Middle-East, Europe and other destinations, according to Nilesh Jetpariya, President of the Vibrant Ceramics Expo and Summit, 2017, being held at Gandhinagar from November 16 to 19.
Jetpariya was here for a roadshow to promote the expo. He said the Indian ceramic industry ranked second in the world, accounting for 12.9 per cent of global output. He said ceramic products from India were cheaper than those from China and better in quality.
He said the Morbi ceramic cluster in Gujarat, the second largest in the world, was contributing bulk of the exports from the country. “But, there is enormous scope for developing a major ceramic cluster in Andhra Pradesh also, as the raw material (clay) is available in plenty in the West Godavari district. A preliminary survey has been conducted and we hope it will get off the ground,” he said.
