An elaborate security cordon has been thrown around the Assembly today on the eve of the proposed ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally by pro-Telengana supporters on Saturday to protest against the delay in formation of a separate state.

While the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly were paralysed for the third day, there was trouble at the Osmania University campus for the second day today as pro-Telengana students clashed with the police.

Students pelted stones on the police after they were stopped before the main gate on the campus.

They began to tear down barricades and barbed wires erected to prevent them from taking out the rally, with the police firing teargas shells.

Some students tried to break through the security rings before the Assembly in the morning, before they were stopped by the police.

Permission denied

The police has denied permission for the July 14 Chalo Assembly rally, warning of stern action against those who attempted to break the law.

Meanwhile, the TRS and the BJP members stalled the proceedings of the Assembly in support of their demand for a separate statehood for Telangana.

They made their way to the well of the House soon after the session began, raising slogans and demanding that the Assembly pass a resolution for Telangana statehood.

The adjournment motions moved by parties on various issues including price rise were rejected by the Legislative assembly Speaker N. Manohar.

He had to adjourn the House for half an hour, as they continued to raise slogans and rushed to the well. After the House resumed, they continued to raise slogans, prompting the chair to adjourn the House again for 30 minutes.

The police stepped up their security arrangement for tomorrow, blocking all entries to the Assembly, including from Basheerbagh, Nampally and Masab Tank.

Even those coming from nearby districts to the State capital were thoroughly checked. Schools have declared a holiday.

Amid slogan-shouting, Finance Minister A. Ramanarayana Reddy introduced the Andhra Pradesh Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments (Amendment) Bill, 2013, on behalf of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
