Senior executive of Saradha Group arrested

A senior executive of the scam-tainted Saradha Group was arrested on Sunday on charges of cheating and money laundering.

The official, Arindam Das, who was reportedly absconding for the past two months, was allegedly mobilising deposits from West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.

The Saradha Group, which went bust in April, is said to have mobilised nearly Rs 20,000 crore allegedly through ponzi schemes.

Fifth arrest

Das is the fifth person to be arrested from the Saradha Group. The Group’s CEO Sudipta Sen, and three other close aides are currently behind bars on charges of cheating, conspiracy and abetment to suicide, among others, following a series of first information reports filed by investors, agents and employees of the Group.

Charges

According to a senior police official, Das, a general manager in the Saradha Group was wanted for a number of charges including cheating and money laundering.

Earlier, the police had issued a look-out notice against Das who was supervising over 50 branch offices of the Saradha Group across South 24 Parganas and Burdwan districts. He was reportedly arrested while trying to escape from the district.
