The Karnataka government has called for an all-party meeting on Wednesday to decide on the State’s future course of action, after the Supreme Court directed it to release 6,000 cusecs of water till Friday.
Immediately after apex court directive, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reached out to his ministers and took a decision to call all-party meet in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, State which could not get an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is now hoping for his intervention on the matter.
AICC General Secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh, reacting to the Supreme Court order on Cauvery, said “...when the honourable Supreme Court gave two orders, the State government duly complied, now as per the water policy, the first right of water is for drinkingThe Congress fully supports the Karnataka government in their decision. We will appeal to the people of Tamil Nadu they should also look into the drought in the catchment area of the KRS dam in Kodagu and the availability of water in Karnataka,” he said.
Cheap politicking: BJPState BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa said while the party would back any decision taken by the Congress government in the State. However, he accused Congress leaders of indulging in cheap politics by drawing the Prime Minister and the Centre into the matter.
