Ms Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government, on Saturday, started offering monthly allowance to unwilling farmers and landless labourers of Singur.
The dole, announced last month was doubled, soon after the Calcutta High Court verdict describing Singur Act as “unconstitutional and void’’.
The scheme promises to cover close to 3,700 farmers and landless labourers in Khaserberi, Beraberi, Gopalnagar, Singerberi and Bajemilia villages adjacent to the Tata Nano factory site at Singur.
According to Ms Sripriya Rangarajan, Hooghly district magistrate, the State had started transferring the allowance of Rs 1,000 for May and Rs 2,000 for June to the unwilling farmers in Khaserberi. The process would take about a week to reach out to all beneficiaries.
