Six accused in the multi-crore Saradha scam, including Group Chairman Sudipta Sen and MP Kunal Ghosh, were remanded to CBI custody for a week.
According to a CBI spokesperson, the central investigation agency had appealed to a local Court seeking custody of the six named in its FIR. The others are senior officials or directors of the Saradha Group, including Debjani Mukherjee.
The CBI had, earlier this month, filed 46 FIRs, three in West Bengal and 43 in Odisha, relating to the Saradha scam. The Saradha Group had, through various money collection schemes, defrauded thousands in Bengal, Odisha, Assam and other States.
The Supreme Court had in May this year ordered a CBI probe into the scam that is said to run into a few thousand crore rupees.
