To get environmental clearance, SmartCity Kochi has proposed to submit a fresh application to start the first phase of the project on June 15.
Filing a fresh submission has been necessitated following the deferring of environment clearance application by the State Expert Appraisal Committee citing factual errors and absence of specific environmental management plan, Baju George, Managing Director, Smartcity India, told reporters here on Monday.
The company, he said, is expecting the go ahead for the project in the first hearing. The tender formalities for the work on the first bridge connecting the plots separated by a water body would commence start in July.
Smartcity Kochi has an authorised capital of Rs 670 crore and discussions are under way with some leading banks to lend for the project, he said.
The project will have a four-storeyed building with 22 lakh sq ft spread over 50 acres on the banks of Kadambrayar at Edachira near Kakkanad. The project is expected to be ready in two years, he added.
He said that the first building will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, work on the six lakh sq ft will be launched and the second phase of the remaining 16 lakh sq ft within the next six months.
Meanwhile, Gigo Joseph has assumed charge as the new Chief Executive Officer of SmartCity Kochi. He has been serving as the CEO of Infopark Kochi.
