Reiterating Congress’ move to support the Andhra Pradesh bifurcation process, All-India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh said he expects the process to go through as all Congress leaders will fall in line. Singh, who is in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs, said a special session of Parliament can be convened if required (for the passage of the Telangana Bill).
Addressing a press conference, he said Congress leaders from the Seemandhra and Telangana regions had agreed to abide by the decision of the Congress high command despite holding strong views on the division of the State. There is consensus within political parties on the bifurcation. However, he said, TDP and YSR Congress have reversed their stand. This has lead to acrimony. “It is for the Business Advisory Committee of the State Assembly to consider the Draft Bill and for the members to express their views on various sections. Necessary changes, if any, would be incorporated after Government of India takes them into consideration,” he said.
“I would assure the people of Seemandhra and Telangana, Government employees, students and others that the Government is committed to ensure development in every sector of the regions once bifurcation takes place,” he said.
Meanwhile, the draft AP Reorganisation Bill-2013 could not be tabled in the State Assembly today as the House was adjourned till Monday after MLAs from either side of the regional divide disrupted the proceedings, in what was seen as a game of one-upmanship, news agency PTI reported.
