Kolkata-based SPS Group plans to launch a 150-seat medical college in Durgapur next month.
Linked with a 300-bed super-speciality hospital, the medical college will be set up at the IQ City in Durgapur. Spread across 100 acres , IQ City is a township developed jointly by Asansol Durgapur Development Authority and SPS Group along with two other promoters. “We have already obtained an approval from the Medical Council of India for the proposed medical college and it is expected to be operational next month. We also expect to get certain clearances from the respective State Committee by then,” Bipin Kumar Vohra, Managing Director, SPS Group, told Business Line. The SPS Group has roped in Bangalore-headquartered cardiac hospital chain, Narayana Hrudayalaya, for managing the super-speciality hospital.
Deepak Venugopalan, Zonal Director, East, Narayana Hrudayalaya, said the super-speciality services will the introduced at the hospital in the next couple of months.
Named IQ City Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, the facility already functions as a general hospital since last year.
Narayana Hrudayalaya currently operates a 550-bed multi-speciality hospital in Kolkata.
“We have tied up with the Kolkata-based SPS Group to manage the super-speciality hospital in Durgapur that would offer speciality care in areas like as cardiology, orthopaedics, neurology and nephrology,” Venugopalan said.
Narayana Hrudayalaya will, however, not have any stake in the hospital, he added.
According to Vohra, the hospital will have 300 beds initially and be scaled it up to a 750-bed facility over the next three to four years.
