The mood was upbeat at the Farm Varsity campus here this morning as students from the various Tamil Nadu Agricultural University campuses in the State flocked at the job fair.
The number of students crossed the 700-mark this year.
As many as 21 companies, including Kolkata-headquartered James Warren Tea Ltd, Nature Bio Foods, New Delhi, Deejay Farms, Bangalore, Tuticorin Hindustan Bio Plant, Tuticorin, Raasi Seeds, Salem, Suguna Foods, Coimbatore, Shand Group of Companies, Mumbai, Jain Irrigation, Pollachi and others participated in the event.
The placement numbers would be known at the end of the two-day event, N Ragupathi, Director, Directorate of Student Welfare, said.
The Directorate, which has been championing the cause for over a decade now, has been witnessing better participation of students with every passing year, Ragupathi said, sharing the numbers placed during the earlier years.
Ás many as 562 candidates found placements in 2010-11; it rose to 737 the following year before slipping to a low of 222 in 2012-13. This was because of the special and aggressive drive for placement in banks through the IBPS route. Many students preferred bank jobs and opted out of campus placement drive last year, the Director said.
