At a time when the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (Tangedco) is facing flak for the acute power shortage the State is reeling under, it had achieved a record of selling the biggest quantum of power on a single day on May 15.
That the record was made at a time when there was a 40 per cent power cut with 4-hour peak hour restriction made it even more incredible.
In his submission before the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission here on Friday, D. Balasundaram, President, Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association (TECA), Coimbatore, said Tangedco had made a history on May 15 when it sold 266 MU of energy.
It had also recorded a maximum demand of more than 12,000 MW on that day.
He felt that if the restrictions were not in place and if more power was available, TANGEDCO could have “easily exceeded a sale of more than 300 MU of energy” and got past the demand of 13,000 MW.
Balasundaram, lauding the TNEB and TANGEDCO on this “historical achievement'', wished that Tangedco crosses the sale of 100,000 MU power during 2013-14.
