Garment exporters have started voicing concern over the rise in the price of hosiery yarn. In its appeal to the apex body of textile mills in the south - The Southern India Mills Association (SIMA), Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) President A Sakthivel has said that the increase in cotton yarn price would adversely impact the garment exporters in the Tirupur knitwear cluster.
“While this could be consequent to the increase in cotton prices, cotton rates, as of now, have slipped by ₹2,000 a candy and in this scenario, the inclination by the mill sector to hike the price of cotton yarn would hit exporters badly. Further, after Brexit, the pound had depreciated by about 10 per cent, which in turn resulted in suffering and loss for the garment exporting units,” Sakthivel said.
